The world's largest falafel, weighing 74.75kg (164.80 lb), was prepared last week at the Landmark Hotel in Amman, Jordan.

The previous record-holding falafel weighed 23.94 kg (52. 8 lb), prepared in California.

A team of 10 chefs came together to prepare the dish, which contained 80kg of chickpeas, 5kg of onions and 2kg fresh parsley.

After being deep fried for 25 minutes in 350 litres of vegetable oil, the dish was later served up to 600 hungry hotel guests.

Landmark hotel manager Aysar Batayneh noted, "As a local hotel proud of its Jordanian roots, the Landmark Amman wanted to mark this special time of year by doing something truly extraordinary and bringing the falafel record to Jordan."
