Can you open a bottle of wine in under 30 seconds? That was the question posed to more than 300 people at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas earlier this week when they attempted to break the world record for the most people uncorking wine simultaneously.

As the warm desert sun shone down on the hotel's Grand Patio on Wednesday morning, planners for the Vegas Uncork'd by Bon Appetit event were busy registering participants, many of them culinary professionals from the Bellagio, as well other nearby hotels such as Caesars Palace, the Cosmopolitan and Mandalay Bay.

Additionally, several of the finest chefs in the nation were on hand to attempt their own quick uncorking, including José Andrés, Hubert Keller, Rick Moonen, Michael Mina and Julian Serrano

After a quick refresher on how to properly uncork a wine bottle from the Bellagio's Master Sommelier Jason Smith, the countdown started followed by a flurry of twisting, levering and popping.

Although a few bottles stayed stubbornly closed, 308 people were able to open their bottles in the allotted time, beating the previous record of 252 uncorkings set in New York last year by some margin.

Cheers go out to all the participants, and welcome to the Guinness World Records family!
