For thousands of people streaming into the Pechanga Resort and Casino last Saturday, the chance of winning part of the $100,000 prize in the World's Largest Slot Machine Tournament was the number one priority.
For the staff of Bally Technologies, it was making sure the tournament went off without a hitch, which meant they would attempt to set a new Guinness World Record achievement for Most Slot Machines Running the Same Game Simultaneously.
As the crew from Bally Technologies explained, a normal casino is made up of slot machines from many different companies, each running their own game.
However, Bally's DM Tournaments software allows the same game to run on machines from five different manufacturers.
Instead of the typical 80 machines used to run a slot machine tournament, more than 1,000 could be activated at the same time, a feat never before attempted in the world of casino gaming.
Three minutes of frenzied button pushing commenced as players attempted to obtain the highest score playing the Hot Shot Tournament game.
On the casino floor, lights flashed and buzzers sounded as people went wild, while the staff from Bally's monitored the servers powering the game to make sure everything went smoothly.
In what turned out to be a truly incredible show of technological power, 1,141 people played the Hot Shot Tournament game simultaneously, setting a new Guinness World Record achievement.
