Guinness World Records does not sanction, endorse or encourage attempts by people under the age of 16 for any record attempt which may be considered unsuitable for a young person. This includes 'youngest person to circumnavigate the world' by any form of transportation.

Guinness World Records has always encouraged people to challenge themselves and achieve their goals. However, we aim to encourage responsible record breaking that does not jeopardise the claimant or members of the public.

In line with this policy Guinness World Records only considers claims for such categories from those 16 years of age or older. Laura Dekker was 15 years old when she set sail in January 2011.

For all sailing records, Guinness World Records works closely with the world's two leading authorities, the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).

The WSSRC does not recognise records based on age.
