The Brief

The TCS London marathon has long been the most popular marathon in the world, but London Marathon Events (LME), organisers of the world-famous event, this year aimed to set a Guinness World Records title for the Largest number of finishers in a marathon.

On Sunday 27 April 2025, they did just that when a remarkable 56,640 people crossed the iconic Finish Line on The Mall. LME wanted to expand this remarkable accomplishment into an even bigger campaign – one that would speak to their participants and make sure they were able to celebrate in a meaningful way.

The Solution

Being a part of a record-breaking event meant the world to runners, and LME wanted each of them to be able to mark this unforgettable day. Luckily for them, Guinness World Records is in the business of making incredible achievements unforgettable.

Building on our close partnership, we worked closely with LME on a campaign to offer our Record Participation Certificate (RPC) directly to their audiences to commemorate their part in the historic occasion.

The campaign consisted of emails, paid advertising, and social comms and saw an overwhelming demand for certificates. With our link to the RPCs driving more engagement in LME's announcement email than any other content. Through our certificate sales, and we were also able to support LME's important fundraising efforts, with a percentage of proceeds going to their parent charity, the London Marathon Foundation.

Our long-standing partnership with Guinness World Records is now an intrinsic part of the TCS London Marathon. Spectators, participants and media all enjoy the wonderful diverse record attempts, which showcase the human stories and fundraising behind the incredible record challenges which are attempted every year.
