The Brief

Jangaard AS manufactures and distributes fish products, specifically harvesting, producing and processing salted fish, stock fish and fresh fish. With the support of Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC). Bacalhau is important to Portuguese cuisine and culture but it was also important to emphasize the best origin: Noruega.

With this record, Jaangard AS wanted to bring both cultures together and generate overall brand awareness by establishing a new Guinness World Records title.

The Solution

Bacalhau Noruega is known to be the best cod in the world and it was time to establish that it was also the largest. Jangaard AS worked with Guinness World Records (GWR) to break the record for the Largest Bacalhau, at 10,3kg, 113 cm high and 70 wide. This cod was caught in Norway, but the certificate event was held in Portugal. After all, Norway and Portugal share more than it may seem: the Norwegians fish Cod with great fishmonger mastery and the fish being popular in Portuguese cuisine.

The event generated news on TV, print and online media, as well as social media. Overall, the record showcases the close and longstanding relation between Portugal and Norway, where the sea plays a remarkable role, and that common identity is clipfish.

The origin of clip fish is very important to attest to its quality, but on this occasion, in addition to its unique characteristics at this level, it is important to mention that its size was a differentiating factor. The Largest Bacalhau travelled from Norway to receive this title in Portugal, because, as we know, no one knows this fish better than the Portuguese!
