Continuing our month-by-month look back over the past year of fantastic record-breaking feats, in October there were amazing attempts from all over the world, including the longest slip and slide in Jordan, an enormous projected image in Russia, a huge costume gathering in India, two breathtaking records in the Philippines, and much more...
videoFollowing tests that were carried out earlier in the year, Guinness World Records was able to confirm that the huge technology company Microsoft had successfully created the Quietest place on Earth, at their headquarters in Redmond Washington, USA.
They built an anechoic chamber (a room insulated from exterior sources of noise and designed to completely absorb reflections of sounds inside) which recorded an average background noise reading of an unimaginably quiet -20.35 dBa.
We then confirmed that 200 volunteers from Cheongju, South Korea had transformed a local abandoned tobacco plant into a stunning piece of art with the
Largest display of compact discs.
The “dream factory” CD project created an amazing exhibition space to host the town’s Craft Biennale event while simultaneously revitalised its population’s community spirit.

The Moscow International “Festival of Light” opened in spectacular record-breaking style on 2 October, as the
Largest projected image was displayed on the famous 20,000 m
2 Ministry of Defence Building, on the Moscow river.

On the very same day in India, 4,605 school children grouped together to celebrate the 146th birthday of India’s renowned non-violent activist Mohandas Gandhi and spread his values of peace and inclusiveness in a record-breaking costume gathering in Bangalore, India.
Pupils from the Venkat, St. Ann’s and Venus Group of Institutions sported false moustaches, bald caps, glasses and bamboo sticks to break the hugely popular record title Largest gathering of people dressed as Mohandas Gandhi.
Over in the Philippines, the premiere of historical-biographical film “Felix Manalo” set two incredible record titles when it was screened to a record-breaking 43,624 people at The Philippine Arena in Cuidad de Victoria.
Guinness World Records officials attended the event to present a certificate to those behind the new movie.
Global singing sensation Sam Smith’s latest single “Writing’s on the Wall” debuted at No.1 on the UK charts on 10 October, earning the star another Guinness World Records title.
The track was written for recently-released movie “Spectre” and is the First James Bond theme to reach No.1 in the UK charts, during the series' 52 year tenure.

The Largest caravan built with interlocking plastic bricks was unveiled during the Motorhome and Caravan Show 2015, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK.
The LEGO model was built using 215,158 individual pieces and was a life-sized replica of a real-life “teardrop” style caravan, featuring fully-functioning amenities including a sink with running water, electric lights, a bed, seating, a chess set, toothbrushes and even simulated cooking facilities and a fridge.
The Philippines hosted yet another successful record attempt this month when the Members Church of God International (Philippines) formed the Largest gospel choir ever as part of the 35th anniversary celebration for Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path Religious Program) – Philippines’ longest running religious program on television and radio.
Thousands of singers from churches near and far took their places in the Araneta Coliseum in Manila to perform, and Guinness World Records official adjudicator Fortuna Melhem was overcome with emotion during the breathtaking recital.

Most books toppled in a domino fashion at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair, knocking down 10,200 brand new copies of
Guinness World Records 2016.

The Rugby World Cup 2015 was well underway in October, so the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames, UK hosted a record-breaking game for the children, where 442 boys and girls played a tag tournament in Old Deer Park continuously over six hours and became the Most participants in a touch/mini/tag rugby exhibition match ever.
Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Sport, Cllr Meena Bond said: “We always knew Richmond’s young people were among the fittest and most competitive in London – they’ve been on the podium of the London Youth Games for the past two years, but they are world beaters. Well done to everyone involved – you’ve made Richmond proud.”
Towards the end of the month, Jordan slid happily into the record books with the
Longest slip and slide, which was almost as long as Dubai’s Burj Khalfa is tall (and that’s the
Tallest building in the world).
The idea behind the attempt was to highlight the country as an enjoyable place for tourists to visit, and director of the project Mona Naffa concluded: “We are thrilled with the outcome of this amazing project, it truly highlights Jordan as a family fun destination.”
On 25 October, ABC channel in the US aired an hour-long, in-depth look at an incredible feat achieved by Danny Way as part of its weekly World of X Games extreme sports show.
The 41-year-old American professional skateboarder smashed the record for the Highest air on a skateboard (quarterpipe), flying a daunting 7.772 m (25.49 ft) into the sky.
