The Jacksonville Jaguars have gained 23 yards and secured a sizzling victory after swapping a football ball for a sausage, achieving the Longest throw and catch of a hotdog sausage into a bun in London on 24 October.
Mark Brunell, former Jaguars quarterback from 1995 through to 2003, launched the sausage a soaring 20.96 m (68 ft 9 in) which was caught in the bun by Brit Ryan Moore, the Events and Marketing Manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ UK activity.
They surpassed the minimum distance required, 20 m (65 ft 7 in), but not without difficulty.
"It took just about everything I had to throw it that far," admitted Brunell after the attempt.
However, the hard work was worth it, and while resting his sausage flinging fingers, Brunell reflected on his victory: "Pretty big deal. I’m proud of it."
"It's a little different from throwing a football of course – but anyone can throw a football, not everyone can throw a hotdog."
The event took place at the Millenium Arena in London and was organised by Fire & Smoke, a cooked meat brand which sponsors the Jaguars.
Adjudicator Jack Brockbank was on hand to oversee the attempt – and ensure the sausage and bun adhered to the guidelines.
"The sausage may not be tampered with in any way to aid its projection," he warned before the attempt.
After a successful and fun record was set, Adjudicator Jack admitted the whole thing was "quite amusing".
