Hundreds of families recently took part in a colourful group record attempt in China.

889 people donned yellow and green costumes and successfully broke the record for the Largest gathering of people dressed as sunflowers.

They each wore a large yellow headdress that represented the flower and made for some great photos...

Taking place in Guangzhou, Guangdong, the event was organised by real estate company Mayland City to promote the local area and encourage citizens to do more outdoor activities.

One enthusiastic parent who attended the attempt said: "I’m so excited to become part of Guinness World Records! I’m very busy during work and I really appreciate the opportunity to be with my kids, come to this beautiful place and be part of this meaningful activity."

Official Guinness World Records adjudicator Maggie Luo was on hand to count and verify the participants.

She announced that Mayland City successfully broke the previous record of 748 people, achieved by Karnevalsgesellschaft "Bleib treu" in Germany in 2015.
