YMCA’s global soccer shootouts score record for most consecutive penalty kicks

To celebrate their 171st birthday, the YMCA organised a world record attempt for the Most consecutive football (soccer) penalty kicks, as part of their annual World Challenge to fit in with its “Kicking goals for youth empowerment” theme.

 

With over 50 different YMCA locations taking part in 28 venues – including countries such as Belarus, Peru, Greece and Mongolia – an incredible 3,243 participants of all ages and nationalities successfully scored a world record.

 

 

Large penalty shootouts were held simultaneously all over the world (all beginning at 12 pm GMT), where as many people as possible were given one shot from the penalty spot, one at a time.

 

A qualified football referee was present at each goal post to ensure that the balls were kicked in conformation with the rules of soccer.

 

Talking of the record, YMCA Secretary General, Johan Vilhelm Eltvik said, “It was fitting because our friends in YMCA Uruguay invented futsal. Kicking goals for empowering young people may have been the theme for our birthday, but it is also the theme we all take into the world every day of the year as well.”

 

 

The record for the Most consecutive football (soccer) penalty kicks (single venue) is held by Ardencaple Football club (UK), which achieved the record in March this year to raise money for Comic Relief.
