Video: Russia’s Circle of Light festival opens with record-breaking projection display

The nine-day Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light” in Russia, which concluded on Sunday, opened with a dazzling 19,099.3 m² (205,582.33 ft²) video animation projected onto the famous 20,000 m² Ministry of Defence Building. 

 

The Largest projected image ever was a colourful 50 minute story which a huge crowd of mesmerised visitors watched from the other side of the Moscow river.

 

The display made use of 140 powerful Panasonic Corporation projectors which each had an output of 20,000 lumens.

 

Guinness World Records adjudicator Fortuna Melhem flew to the city to verify the successful attempt alongside various independent witnesses and architects.

 

 

The festival is an annual event that is free to attend, where professional light designers from all over the world create striking installations and projection shows on the renowned architecture of the country’s capital.

 

 

The fifth anniversary of the government-organised “Circle of Light” festival won the record from Robert Lepage and his production company Ex Machina (both Canada), which produced a 16,630.9 m² (179,013 ft²) projection on the grain silos of the company Bunge in Quebec City, Canada back in 2008.

 

Curator and co-organizer of the project , LBL Communication Group has said: “The next festival in 2016 will be glad to invite even more guests as well as the organizers are ready to make the show more colorful, bright and entertaining because now “Circle of light” is a brand mentioned in the famous book of Guinness World Records.”
