LG create enormous light bulb mosaic to promote energy efficient products

LG Electronics and Envisible, Inc. wanted to demonstrate the efficiency of their new Pollux refrigerator in an impressive visual way, so they decided to make the world’s Largest light bulb image.

 

The image was created using an incredible 18,072 bulbs to represent the amount of electricity people could save in one year by using the new fridge.

 

 

The impressive 12 metres by 9.6 metres mosaic was displayed in Kimpo City in South Korea, where official Guinness World Records adjudicator Lucia Sinigagliesi was on hand to authenticate the new record.

 

 

LG sought the help of media artist group Everyware and Canadian mosaic artist Serge Belo, who designed the colourful image of a Polux fridge against a background of fruit and vegetables.

To create the colours the team spent 48 hours adding filters to each of the 18,072 bulbs.

 

 

LG have broken the previous record of 11,022 which was achieved at an event organised by Dubai Health Authority and Benchmark Middle East,(both UAE) in Dubai, UAE, in 2014.

 

This latest achievement is not the first time that LG Electronics has harnessed the power of record-breaking to show off their energy efficient products. In April this year, professional card stacker Bryan Berg (USA) successfully created the Tallest house of cards built in 12 hours on top of a running LG washing machine.
