Start-up company Medano Coffee Pte Ltd (Singapore) wanted to launch its new range of premium beverages by attempting a Guinness World Records title.
The brand’s founders Wee Hao and Chris decided to create the world’s Most expensive coffee pod and donate the proceeds to charity.
They blended the most luxurious of coffee capsules from the highest quality King Jantan peaberry coffee beans and 22K gold dust, which they say creates a much richer flavour.
The peaberry bean is a Mandheling coffee found in North Sumatra, Indonesia that has floral, spicy, cocoa and caramel tasting notes.
The limited edition coffee pods are being sold as a set of five for $388 each, which is a whopping $77.60 Singaporean dollars per pod ($54.63 USD, £43.65 GBP).
Ng Wee Hao, co-founder of Medano Coffee, said: “We harvest the best coffee beans from Asia, meticulously roast them to different degrees of perfection, and present them in a unique, contrasting way to our most discerning coffee lovers."
Medano Coffee has now launched its new King Jantan product line which contains the peaberry bean – but without the added 22K gold dust, the pods are sold at a much lower price!
Guinness World Records was also able to confirm another coffee-themed achievement this month, after Nestlé Portugal achieved the Most espressos made in one hour (team) title with an incredible 21,000 shots.
300 professional baristas from a variety of Nestlé drinks brands took part in the high-energy attempt in Carvalhal, Portugal.
Like Medanos, Nestlé's record challenge also helped a good cause, as the equivalent amount of coffee used in the attempt was donated to the Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome (Food Bank Against Hunger).
