Lewis Hamilton (UK) has achieved a ground-breaking record in Formula One’s history by breaking the record for the most Formula One Grand Prix wins by a driver.

His win of the Portuguese Grand Prix yesterday (25 October 2020) was his 92nd Grand Prix victory, leading him to break the record he previously tied with racing legend Michael Schumacher (Germany), who won 91.

After his win, Hamilton tweeted and posting on Instagram saying; "I’m thinking of Michael today, I will forever have the utmost admiration and respect for you, it’s truly been an honour to be mentioned in the same sentence as you..."

Schumacher, now 51 years old, still holds eight of the records he set during his racing career, including most Formula One hat-tricks by a driver (22) and most Formula One fastest laps in a career (77).

He of course also still holds the record for the most Formula One World Championships with seven victories.

However, Hamilton is hot on his tail to tie with six wins of his own - it may well be his next record-breaking milestone this year!
