2019 will mark three years of Guinness World Records partnering with the BMW Berlin Marathon. The collaboration provides runners with the chance to become a certified Guinness World Records title holder as they cross the finish line.

Attempting a Guinness World Records title is an opportunity for you to add an extra challenge to your marathon and helps to raise money and awareness for your charity or special cause.

On-the-day record verification is usually a paid-for-service but, for this day only, the verification will be done free of charge.

In 2018, four amateur runners secured a Guinness World Records title while running in the Berlin Marathon. Their records are below:

  1. Jochen Glasbrenner (Germany) - fastest inline skating marathon dressed as a superhero (male): 01:12:56 hours
  2. Jamie Buckland (UK) - fastest marathon dressed as a French maid (male): 03:02:56
  3. Richard Mietz (Germany) - fastest marathon dressed as a landmark (male): 03:34:34
  4. Kranti P. Salvi (India) - fastest marathon dressed in a sari (female): 03:57:07

This was in addition to Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge setting a new record for the fastest marathon (male).

For aspiring record breakers who want to take part, follow these simple steps. Once you’ve registered for the BMW Berlin Marathon, please make a standard application via GuinnessWorldRecords.com and include the following:

As part of the submission process, a full description of each applicant’s planned record attempt will be sent to BMW Berlin Marathon Operations Department by Guinness World Records.

The attempt will then be assessed to ensure it is appropriate for the marathon.

Please note that you must have secured a guaranteed place in the 2019 BMW Berlin Marathon if you wish to attempt a Guinness World Records title. Guaranteed entries are not available from Guinness World Records.
