Oktoberfest is a huge beer festival and travelling funfair that is held every year in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
This year it is taking place from 17 September to 3 October and thousands of revellers from all over the globe will be attending to celebrate the occasion in traditional Bavarian style.
Here Guinness World Records lists some of our favourite beer festival-related records to get you in the mood for the ‘Wiesn’.
This record was set in Germany during the “Allgäuer Festwoche” fair this summer. 3,134 women turned up wearing the traditional German garment and achieved the record surrounded by beer steins, gingerbread hearts and pretzels.
People celebrating Oktoberfest are likely to visit a beer garden, but they won’t find the longest beer garden in Munich. The event agency Präsenta built the 1,820 metre-long (5,971 ft 1 in) beer garden in Berlin for the “International Berlin beer-festival” in 2011. Every year thousands of visitors are invited to take a seat and enjoy the Bavarian atmosphere in the middle of Berlin.
John Evans managed to balance astonishing 235 pint glasses on his head for 13 seconds. He achieved this incredible feat during the Guinness-Festival in Dassau in 2002 and has held on to the title for 14 years.

It’s mandatory to eat a pretzel at Oktoberfest. However, the largest pretzel was not baked in Germany, but in San Salvador in El Salvador, by Industrias La Constancia with its brand Pilsener. It weighs 783.81 kg and was shared with all visitors and pretzel-fans at CIFCO in October 2015.
Anita Schwarz from Mesenich in Rhineland-Palatinate managed to carry 19 fully filled beer steins over a distance of 40 meters in celebration of Guinness World Records Day in 2008.
In celebration of the Romanian National Day in 2014, S.C. Carrefour Romania S.A. & Aldis SRL Calarasi created the longest sausage in the world. It measured 62.75 km and broke a record that had remained undefeated for 14 years.
What can you do with 4,734 beer crates? The fire department in Feldhausen in Bottrop constructed a supersized fire engine made of crates. The sculpture measured 15.73 m in length, 4.77 m in width and 5.78 m in height.
