Video: Watch mesmerising footage of the world's largest K’NEX ball contraption

Construction toy expert Austin Granger, from Minnesota, USA, has built the Largest K’NEX ball contraption, with an incredible creation measuring 278 meters in length. 

 

The 23-year-old University of Minnesota computer science under graduate, has been using K’NEX since he was about five years old.

 

After attracting over 2 million view on YouTube for a clip showcasing a massive 40,000-piece Rube Goldbergesque device he had built in his bedroom, Austin was approached by Brickmania Toyworks in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who commissioned him to create an even bigger construction.

 

Consisting of 126,285 K’NEX pieces and now recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest construction of its type, his latest masterpiece sees plastic balls looping on tracks, spiralling through ramps, rattling down chutes, and riding up elevators.

 

When asked about his special talent to build K’NEX contraptions, Austin says “Every time I build one of these machines, I learn more about K’NEX as a material for building and engineering,” he said. “I just get a lot of satisfaction from finding problems and solving them myself.”

 

A new record for the largest LEGO great ball contraption was confirmed recently for Dutch builders Maico Arts and Ben Jonkman. The mechanical marvel was displayed at the BRICK 2015 LEGO® event in Excel, London, UK.
