With movie fans all over the globe eagerly anticipating the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, we've rolled out the red carpet for the key records linked to this year’s Oscars nominees...

Best actor in a leading role:
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant

Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) is probably his most famous role ever - but it did not earn him an Academy Awards nomination. However, the film itself received the Most Oscar nominations ever, notching up a total of 14. (The record is shared with All About Eve, US 1950.)

The Most Oscars won by a film is also held by Titanic, along with Ben Hur (USA 1959) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (NZ/USA 2003), all of which received a staggering 11 Oscars.

Until now, the American heart-throb's most recent nomination was for The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013 – a movie that earned a shocking record for the Most Swearing in one film. The f-word is said 506 times, which makes an average of 2.81 times per minute. The record was broken by Swearnet eight months later, a movie which features the stars of the Canadian television series Trailer Park Boys that includes 868 mentions of the f-word (pictured below).

DiCaprio has not yet won an Oscar, even though he has been nominated five times. The record holder for the Most Oscar nominations without winning is the US citizen Kevin O’Connell who has received an impressive 20 Oscar nominations for sound since 1983, but has never walked home with the trophy.

Jennifer Lawrence, Joy

Jennifer Lawrence’s breakthrough movie The Hunger Games was recognised for two major moving-picture accomplishments in 2013: Not only was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire the Highest-grossing post-apocalypse movie - earning more than $854 million worldwide (and more than $420 million in the US alone) - her character ‘Katniss Everdeen’ landed a spot the Guinness World Records 2015 book as the Highest-grossing action movie heroine.
