Year in World Records - February: Massive selfie sticks and robots solving Rubik’s cubes

With a year packed full of amazing world record achievements drawing to a close, Guinness World Records is taking a month-by-month look back over the most impressive, exciting and game-changing accomplishments that have happened in 2016.

 

The month that brought us the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day saw a host of news-worthy records get broken.

 

The hotly-anticipated Zoolander 2 movie came out in February, and star actor Ben Stiller snapped up a record at the premiere in London.

 

Taking inspiration from his model character in the film, Ben takes a photo with the world’s Longest selfie stick.

The record has proved to be extremely competitive and has been broken four times since.

 

The Chinese New Year welcomed the Year of the Monkey, and Guinness World Records celebrated by sharing some incredible primate achievements.

 

Proboscis monkeys have the longest nose on a primate and reach up to 17.5 cm (6.8 in) long in elderly male specimens.

 

 

Robots were a talking point this month as the record for Fastest robot to solve a Rubik’s cube was broken twice in quick succession.

 

Software engineers Paul Rose and Jay Flatland, from Kansas City, USA first broke the record in an impressive 0.9 seconds.

 

Then came Albert Beet from Germany, whose Sub1 robot smashed the record in an unimaginably-quick 0.887 seconds.

In our new Guinness World Records Italian Show video series on YouTube, Russian performer Oxana Seroshtan set a record for the Farthest tightrope walk in high heels – as if walking along a razor-thin tightwire isn’t tricky enough as it is.

 

It has to be seen to be believed, but the circus artist doubled the existing record, travelling 15 metres (49 ft).
