Thirteen year old boy grows largest afro to get into Guinness World Records book

Thirteen year old Tyler Wright from the USA is the proud owner of a head of hair that measures a whopping 25.4 cm (10 in) high, 22.9 cm (9 in) wide and 177 cm (5 ft 10 in) in circumference.

 

He was recently confirmed as having the world’s Largest afro (male) and as a result he has earned a place in the Guinness World Records 2017 Edition.

 

Speaking about his extraordinary record, Tyler said: “It’s changed my life because I realise that I’m a thirteen year old and I’m able to get into a book for having the world’s largest male afro - and if I’m only thirteen and I can do that, I know I can do almost anything I want when I’m older.”

 

Previously the largest natural male Afro on record was 14.6 cm (5.75 in) in height, 21.6 cm (8.5 in) in width and 154.3 cm (5 ft 0.75 in) in circumference.

 

Tyler was inspired to grow his afro after seeing a photo of his father as a young boy in the 1970s.

 

His parents are extremely proud and supportive of their record-breaking son – but mum can’t wait to take him to a barbers to get it cut.

 

Having the world’s largest fro does not come without its problems because kids at Tyler’s school have been known to lose things in his enormous hair.

 

 

Guinness World Records recently caught up with Tyler at Rudy’s Barbershop in New York to chat to him about his giant hairdo on Facebook Live.

 

 

The Largest Afro (female) belongs to Aevin Dugas (USA).

 

It measured 16 cm (6.3 in) high, 21 cm (8.27 in) wide, and had a circumference of 139 cm (4 ft 7 in) when verified on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome, Italy, on 31 Mar 2012.

 

Tyler appears in the new Guinness World Records 2017 Edition alongside hundreds of incredible human body facts and feats.
