Norway’s popular family-run ice-cream company Hennig-Olsen scooped a Guinness World Records title earlier this month after creating the world's Tallest ice-cream cone ever with a whopping 3.08m high confectionary construction.
They frosted over the previous record of 2.81 m, which had been held by Mirco Della Vecchia and Andrea Andrighetti (both Italy) since 2011.
The super-sized cone was the centrepiece of a huge event organised to celebrate the success and popularity of Hennig-Olsen's classic ice-cream “Krone-is” , with the cone used to hold a mega helping of its best-selling flavour - strawberry.
The giant cone weighed almost a tonne and was able to contain 1,080 litres of ice-cream – enough for 10,800 people to have two scoops each – as well as 60 litres of chocolate and 110 kg of waffle biscuit.
The ice-cream had to be airlifted by a helicopter from the ice-cream factory where it was made, to the event in Kristiansand in Southern Norway where a Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to verify the attempt.
Tron Woien, project manager for Hennig-Olsen’s record-attempt, said, “A Guinness World Records title is the highest recognition a world achievement can have. We are happy to announce that we fulfilled the requirement and achieved our goal.”
Speaking of the event's success, Paal Hannig-Olsen, the third generation of the family to run the business, said, ““Kristiansand in Norway was full of ice cream lovers, and we served thousands of portions of ice cream to them. The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was great to be able to share such a massive ice cream moment with everyone present.”
