With Star Wars fever gripping the planet ahead of the release of The Force Awakens, a world record attempt inspired by a galaxy far, far, away took place last week.

Cinépolis, Mexico’s largest cinema theatre company and promotions agency Ping Solutions, joined forces to promote the much-anticipated release of the new addition to the science fiction saga, with an attempt for the Guinness World Record title for the Largest plastic cup pyramid.

Created at the Paseo Acoxpa Cinépolis in Mexico City with more than 42,925 plastic commemorative cups featuring Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens designs, the successful attempt measured approximately eight meters tall and five meters wide.

Construction of the pyramid began on November 30 with the entire build taking 50 hours in total to complete.

Every cup used in the pyramid had an authentication certificate with each belonging to a collection of 10 exclusive designs that fans will be able to purchase via the Cinépolis website.

Commenting on the attempt , Ramon Ramirez, PR Director for Cinépolis said:  “We’re very happy about this attempt in collaboration with Ping Solutions”

“Beyond the Guinness World Records title for us it is a great satisfaction to create moments that bring happiness to our customers, in this case Star Wars fans, who are unique and are always following the franchise.”
