Lego Batman has been officially recognised as the best-selling superhero videogame of all time, beating a host of comic book classics such as Arkham Asylum and Marvel vs Capcom to the title.

Originally released in 2008 following the success of Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones, as of November 2014 it had sold a staggering12.81million copies worldwide.

Developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros, the game was released on eight different platforms (Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Mac OS X, Nintendo DS, and Wii).

Featuring Batman’s iconic enemies Joker, Riddler and Penguin in plastic brick form, the game also has Robin as the Dark Knight’s crime fighting sidekick, allowing for the series’ renowned cooperative gameplay alongside exploration, combat and puzzle solving elements.

The game has gone on to spawn two sequels; Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes released in June 2012 and this year’s Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

We caught up with Arthur Parsons, Game Director for Traveller's Tales, pictured above,  at the Bric Lego fan convention in London last week to talk about the record and why he thinks the game has proved so popular.
