Record Holder Conduct Policy

May 2026

Guinness World Records champions and celebrates amazing achievements from people all around the world. By awarding an official record title, we recognise individuals and groups who inspire, entertain, and amaze.

We understand that GWR title holders will always be diverse and that they live their lives independently of us. However, when an individual associated with Guinness World Records is found to have engaged in behaviour that breaks the law, brings GWR into disrepute, deliberately misleads GWR in achieving a record or has clearly conflicted our values, we have a responsibility to consider action.

Our approach

To maintain fairness and consistency, we follow a structured policy that guides how we respond to cases of misconduct. This process ensures:

  • Fairness: We evaluate the seriousness and relevance of any behaviour before taking action.
  • Consistency: Similar incidents are dealt with in line with the same overarching principles.
  • Proportionality: The response depends on the nature of the issue and the relationship between Guinness World Records and the record holder.
  • Respect: We avoid unnecessary commentary but ensure that our actions reflect our values.

Possible actions

Depending on the circumstances, responses may include:

  • Adjusting how the individual is featured across our publications, digital channels or licensed content.
  • Limiting or suspending future participation in Guinness World Records activities.
  • Providing clarification to partners, media, or the public if appropriate.

In rare and extreme cases, where conduct is in direct conflict with the integrity of a record, Guinness World Records may also consider rescinding existing record titles.

Guiding values

At the heart of every decision is our commitment to:

  • Respect for people of all backgrounds and identities.
  • A safe and inspiring environment for record holders and audiences worldwide.
  • Upholding trust in Guinness World Records as a global brand.
