The tallest thistle measures 3.05 metres (10 ft) and was grown by Scott Mendelowitz (USA) in Cortlandt Manor, New York, USA, as verified on 12 September 2021.
Scott always knew the thistle in his backyard was tall, but it wasn't until his son-in-law mentioned the possibility of a Guinness World Records title that they decided to get it officially measured. The height was measured by a professional surveyor and the plant was verified as a Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) by Eric Brenner, doctor of biology and professor of plant molecular biology at Pace University.
