Kishore Kumar, who died in 1987, won eight Filmfare awards for Best Male Playback Singer.
He appeared in several comedies in the 1940s before becoming a full-time singer. Although best known for his yodelling and jazz-scat rhythms with nonsense lyrics, it was his melancholic songs which won him the most awards.
