In October 2008, the world´s longest tunnel aquarium opened in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand. Set on a 1.6-hectares plot of land, and constructed by the Zoological Park Organisation (ZPO), it measures 133 m (436 ft) long 66.5 m (218 ft) wide, contains freshwater and ocean sections, and houses approximately 8000 aquatic animals belonging to 250 different species.
