The longest-running man vs horse race is the Man vs Horse Marathon, which has been held annually since June 1980 in Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys, Wales. The race takes place over a slightly shorter distance than a typical marathon, covering 21 miles (34 km) across a variety of terrain, with a runner competing against a rider on horseback to reach the finish line in the quickest time.

The first time that the human runner won was in 2004, at the race's 25th edition, when Huw Lobb finished in 2 hours 5 minutes 19 seconds, about two minutes ahead of his equine rival: Kay Bee Jay, ridden by Zoe White. The most recent race on 14 June 2025 was also won by the runner: Dewi Griffiths came in almost 12 minutes quicker than horse Gweni, ridden by Gabi Morley.
