As of 14 March 2016, the longest driven journey is 723,852 km (449,780 miles) and was achieved by Emil and Liliana Schmid (Switzerland) who travelled across 185 countries in the same Toyota Land Cruiser in a journey that started on 18 October 1984 and is still ongoing.

The last leg of the journey took Emil and Liliana from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates, for a total of 15,802 km (9,818 miles). The longest driven journey is continuing in April 2016 from the United Arab Emirates to Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan to the new country of Tajikistan; afterwards to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia to Mongolia (one of the few countries not yet visited by the couple).
