Largest rubber band ball

The largest rubber band ball weighs 5,251.69 kg (11,578 lbs), and was achieved by Claude P. Moore (USA) and was measured at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan, USA on 29 August 2026.

Claude is a rubber band ball enthusiast. He’s been creating balls for years - back in middle school, he made one “as big as a chair” before it got stolen by a classmate. It was a fun way for him to pass the time between numerous doctor appointments and medical treatments. He spent much of his childhood in and out of hospitals while being treated for hemophilia, a severe bleeding disorder.

His life has been challenging. During the pandemic, he found the time to put pen to paper and chronicle the many obstacles he’s faced in his autobiography, My Life with Hemophilia.

His hobby of creating rubber band balls has continued through adulthood. He started making one at work and his coworkers said he should set out to make a massive one - that got him thinking that maybe he could make the biggest one the world has ever seen.

He started making this record-breaking ball in 2015. As it grew, it moved from his garage to its own storage unit. Along the way, “countless” people have helped build it.

Achieving this record, he says, is the first step towards a bigger vision: ending world hunger. He wants to do bigger and bigger things, and step by step work towards this goal.
