The Guinness World Records title for the Largest pop-up book was set with Luceros y Penumbras: Unveiled on July 2, 2026 at the Richard J. Riordan Central Library in Los Angeles as the centerpiece of the library's centennial celebration. The project was a partnership between the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Public Library, and the finished piece measures 31 feet wide and more than 11 feet tall, weighing roughly 1,800 pounds. Los Angeles artist and printmaker Daniel González created the original artwork, drawing on his own family history and his childhood visits to the library, while paper engineer, author, and illustrator Matthew Reinhart designed the book's three-dimensional construction. Together, the collaboration between the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Public Library, González, Reinhart, and Marshall's adjudication turned a milestone anniversary into a record-breaking celebration of storytelling and paper craftsmanship.
