The largest origami lei measures 15,579.7 m (51,114 ft 6.0 in), and was achieved by members of Junior Red Cross Hiroshima (Japan), in Hiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan, on 24 September 2022.


The total number of origami cranes used for the origami lei was 579,658. As a project to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Junior Red Cross of the Japanese Red Cross Society, one million origami cranes (estimated distance of 29 km) were planned to be produced and connected into a single lei. A total of 1.2 million origami cranes were submitted from 120,000 people, of that 110,000 were students in Hiroshima.
