Rio de Janeiro's annual carnival, normally held during the first week of March, attracts approximately two million people each day. In 2004, the carnival attracted a record 400,000 foreign visitors of which it was thought 2,600 were from the Queen Mary II. In 1998, the four day event generated £100million ($165million).
