According to the World Health Organization, the country with the highest rate of obesity is the island state of Nauru, in the South Pacific, where 61.1% of the population are obese. The Cook Islands, also in the South Pacific, had the second-highest rate of obesity, at 55.9%. A person is considered obese if their body mass index (calculated by dividing their mass in kilograms by the square of their height in metres) is greater than or equal to 30.
