The first commercial FPS to allow players to use the mouse to freely look around a 3D environment was Marathon, developed for the Mac by Halo creator Bungie in 1994. Earlier FPS games, such as Doom, only allowed players to shift their view up or down using the keyboard. Featured in Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition.
