Børge Ousland (Norway) skied his way to the North Pole from the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago in the Russian Federation without any external assistance in 52 days from 2 March to 23 April 1994. He was also the first person to make a solo and unsupported journey to the North Pole from land. He did not use any form of motorised transport or parafoil kites.
