All told, games in the Tomb Raider series fronted by adventuring archaeologist Lara Croft have sold over 100 million units, as confirmed by Crystal Dynamics (the current developers of the series) on 11 October 2024. This huge number of units shipped makes Lara gaming's most successful female hero character. To date, she's starred in 12 main Tomb Raider games, starting with 1996's Tomb Raider (Core Design).
The news of Tomb Raider's record-breaking sales record came just a few weeks before the series celebrated its 28th anniversary on 25 October 2024. The Tomb Raider franchise is currently owned by Embracer Group, who acquired it from Square Enix in 2022.
