Captains Hamish Reid and Nick Dennison (both UK) were the first two-man team to row unsupported around mainland Britain, completing the 2,100-miles (3,380-km) journey after an uninterrupted 50 days and 5 hours at sea. The pair set off at 10:10 on 12 May 2010 from the Needles on the Solent, near Lymington Yacht Haven, Hampshire, UK, on board their 24-foot rowing boat named Komale and crossed the finish line on the Solent at 15:02 on 1 July 2010. The Royal Army Medical Corps officers, both 28 at the time of the successful attempt, rowed up to 20 hours per day in shifts governed by wind and tidal conditions. They achieved their aim of raising over £ 20,000 (then approx. $ 32,000) for UK charities Help For Heroes and the Army Benevolent Fund.
