According to, Disney's Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (USA, 2015), the seventh instalment in the sci-fi series, reached $1 billion at the global box office in just 12 days (16–27 December 2015), beating the previous mark of 13 days set by Jurassic World (USA, 2015).

The film set many records including highest-grossing opening weekend and, as of May 2016, was the third highest-grossing movie of all time, only behind Titanic (USA, 1997) and Avatar (USA/UK, 2009).
