The mountain whose summit is farthest from the Earth's centre is the Andean peak of Chimborazo. It is 6,310 m (20,702 ft) high, and lies 158 km (98 miles) south of the equator in Ecuador. Its summit is 2,150 m (7,054 ft) further from the Earth's centre than the summit of Mt Everest, since the Earth's radius in Ecuador is longer than the radius at the latitude of Mt Everest.
