The fastest circumnavigation by tandem bicycle (mixed) is 179 days 12 hr 25 min and was achieved by Laura Massey-Pugh and Steven Massey (both UK) in Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany, on 1 December 2022.

Married couple Laura and Stevie, were inspired by seeing the female team version of the distance challenge. Laura was only a recreational cyclist before Stevie encouraged her to take on ultra-marathon distances.

"The attempt was challenging from start to finish with border issues in Azerbaijan, sickness in India, a motorcycle collision in Malaysia and sub –10'c temperatures in Canada. We battled to the end with mechanical problems and a blizzard in the last 24 hours of reaching the Brandenberg Gate and our finish line.

We remained steadfast despite all the difficulties that we would make our 180 day target, despite being 6 days behind schedule at the halfway mark and made a tremendous effort to reach our goal.

It was incredible to see the World at the speed of a bicycle, but this is definitely the biggest challenge we have ever faced, and we don’t plan on doing anything of this scale again! "
