For the purposes of this record a jester (joker, fool, or harlequin) is a medieval and renaissance era entertainer commonly associated with courts, noble houses, and public festivities. They generally perform a number of skills including joke/storytelling, juggling, and various acrobatics. They are often characterised by flamboyant/patchwork motley, a hat with multiple points, and often carry a marotte.
