On 16 November 2012 the documentary film Chasing Ice was released in the USA. Directed by Jeff Orlowski (USA), the film follows nature photographer James Balog (USA) as he publicises climate change. During their filming the team spent several weeks camping while watching the Jakobshavn Glacier in Greenland until they witnessed a calving event that lasted 75 minutes and resulted in around 7.4 cubic kilometres of ice crashing into the ocean. This was the longest as well as the largest glacier calving ever filmed.
