The store only sells model railroad items. Opened for business in 1938, it is still family-owned and has a total gross leasable area of 2,022.32 m² (21,768 ft²). Model railroaders working in all popular scales and gauges are catered for with hundreds of manufacturers' lines represented in the store's inventory. In addition to model trains, the store has books and videos of railroad topics, tools, paints, control equipment and scenic materials to complement the hobby.

A unique feature of Caboose Hobbies is the presence within the model locomotive section of the store of a genuine, full-size, narrow-gauge Plymouth-type CLH locomotive. It was built in 1927 to a gauge of 610 mm (2 ft 0 in), weighs 3.5 tons and has a 22-hp Buda engine. Used originally in a quarry in Illinois, USA, it was loaned to the store for display in 1992 by its owner Mr John Robinson.
