The roof of the Busan Cinema Center (South Korea) features a cantilever that extends 85 m (278 ft 10.45 in) from its single cone-shaped column support. This roof has a surface area of 60 m by 163 m (196 ft by 535 ft) and weighs 6,376 (metric) tons. Its 9,531 m² (102,591 ft²) of ceiling is clad with 42,600 LED lights. The complex was designed by Wolf D. Prix / Coop Himmelb(l)au (Austria), with the roof raised into final position on 23 March 2011. The Busan Cinema Center, located in Centum City area of U-Dong, Haeundae-Gu, Busan, South Korea, was officially inaugurated on 29 September 2011. The project has two steel roofs. The “big” roof is 163 m long x 60 m wide with an 85 m cantilever portion and weighs 6,376 (metric) tons. The “small” roof covering an outdoor cinema has a span of 70 m and an area of 66 m x 100 to 120 m and weighs 1,236 (metric) tons. The steel structure was constructed in four main parts, with the largest cantilevered portion built on the ground. The “big” roof was raised into its final position 32 meters above the ground. The Busan Cinema Center, built on a 32,100 m² plot, occupies 60,000 m² of performance, dining, entertainment, and administrative space. The various cinema and theater spaces can accommodate up to 6,800 audience members (outdoors and indoors) and house the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). It cost 162.4 billion Korean won to complete.
