A team travelling in the Thomson Reuters Polar Vehicle set a new record for the fastest overland journey to the South Pole (average speed), setting off from Patriot Hills on Sunday 18 December 2011 and arriving at their destination one day, 15 hours and 54 minutes later having covered a distance of 1,114 km (692 miles) resulting in an average speed of 27.9 kmh (17.34 mph). The team was comprised of two members, Jason De Carteret and Kieron Bradley (both UK).
