At 6 m (20 ft) in length and comprising 80,020 pieces, Dinosaur Skeleton by Nathan Sawaya (USA) is an actual-size skeleton of the dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex – the largest complete skeleton made from LEGO bricks.

The T-rex featured as the largest item in Sawaya’s touring exhibition, The Art of the Brick, and was built over the summer of 2011 “in honour of the thousands of children who enjoy the art of LEGO building”.

Nathan says that it took him a whole summer to build it.

New York-based artist Nathan is best known for his colourful and witty creations from LEGO, and is recognized by the manufacturer as a LEGO Master Builder and Certified Professional. His trademark 3D portraits include such cultural icons as Elvis Presley, Superman and Lady Gaga, as well as his own concepts: for example, a skeleton, Mr Bones, captured in the act of draping a blue “skin” (of bricks, naturally) around his bones; and a Melting Man of transparent bricks.
