Friday saw the USA's women's 4x100m relay team wipe away the final track record held by the former East Germany in emphatic style at the London 2012 Olympics.

Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight, and Carmelita Jeter rocketed home is 40.82 to win gold.

The time beat Gladisch-Moller, Sabine Rieger, Ingrid Auerswald-Lange and Marlies Gohr's 27-year-old mark of 41.37.

Elswehere, Ethiopia 's Meseret Defar became the first woman to win the Olympic 5,000m twice, while South Korea's Hwang Kyung Seon now holds the record for the most career medals won in Olympic taekwondo (female) after picking up gold yesterday in the 67kg class to add her bronze won at the 2004 Athens Games and gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
