Unilever Food Solutions demonstrates convenience of new range of commercial spreads with sandwich making record

The Unilever Food Solutions team were set to launch a brand new range of Hellman's sandwich sauces for commercial kitchens, with the key USP being it's ease of spread-ability.

The introduction of this new range was prompted by the evolution of using little or no butter to prepare sandwiches and the ever-expanding street food trend which commands convenience without compromising on taste and quality.  

And what better way to bring this claim to life this than with a record title attempt for Fastest time to spread on 1000 slices of bread (team of 10) in less than 10 minutes!  

A group of 10, including restaurant chefs and employees from Unilever’s Food Solutions team undertook the Guinness World Records™ title challenge in their Brussels staff restaurant.  

“Setting a world record is no easy matter. Everything must be in order down to a T. And there is of course the stress factor which can really mess things up but we were well prepared”, said Linda Sarrault, Channel Marketing Manager at Unilever Food Solutions and project guide.

Indeed they were, with the team setting a new world record by applying spread on 1,000 slices of bread in an impressive 3 minutes 1 second.

The team did not rest on their laurels once the record title was won, with the slices used in the attempt later transformed into sandwiches.

Based upon the new range of Hellman’s spreads, Culinary advisor Eddy Van Vaerenbergh came up with an original recipe for the occasion: sundried tomato & basil, turkey roll, cucumber slices, iceberg lettuce and grated Pecorino Romano cheese.

These were distributed to Poverello, Samusocial and Voedselbanken (foodbank) Nederland, with the remainder sold in the afternoon by Antwerp-based universities.
