The longest career as a motor racing driver is 39 years 364 days and was achieved by Laurentiu Moldovan (Romania) who raced in rally cars and formula 1 style cars from 7 July 1968 to 6 July 2008.

Larentiu died on 6 July 2008 in his first ever accident on the track, he was racing in Romania's national championships. He won multiple national titles during the 1970s. His daughter said "His dream was to be in Guinness World Records as the oldest racer in the world. He died before he could see his dream; we are trying to make it reality now."
